Carbon

The project is designed to protect and conserve peat-swamp forest in Project Block I (the southern block of PT Rimba Kayu Arthamas), delivering long-term climate benefits through forest protection and ecosystem restoration. Developed in accordance with Verra’s Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) — VM0007 and aligned with the Climate, Community & Biodiversity (CCB) Standards, the project ensures robust environmental integrity while supporting positive outcomes for local communities and biodiversity.

Emission Mitigation & Climate Adaptation

  • Peatland protection and management result in avoided emissions of approximately 1.5 million tCO₂e per year.
  • Rewetting and hydrological restoration activities contribute to reducing the risk of fires and floods, while increasing long-term climate resilience.

Biodiversity

The project area supports ecologically important peatland habitats and provides refuge for threatened and endemic species. Through protection and restoration activities, the project strengthens habitat quality, reduces ecosystem degradation, and enhances overall species diversity.

Conservation Outcomes

The project improves habitat integrity through targeted protection and restoration measures, while supporting threatened and endemic wildlife populations.

    Flagship Species

  • Grizzled Tree Kangaroo (Dendrolagus inustus)
  • Western Crowned Pigeon (Goura cristata)
  • New Guinea Crocodile (Crocodylus novaeguineae)

Community

The project will provide employment and alternative livelihoods for local communities, while opening new and sustainable income sources. Community engagement will be implemented through an FPIC-based approach, supported by a benefit-sharing scheme and local capacity strengthening to ensure project permanence. Peat protection and restoration will also reduce flood risks and contribute to improved community health and quality of life.
